Terms of Use
Effective October 23, 20261. What these terms cover
These terms are an agreement between you and Somora governing the Somora iOS app and the related pages on justsomora.com. By installing or using Somora, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app and delete it from your device.
2. Who may use Somora
Somora is offered to users located in the United States and is for adults aged 18 or older. When you first open Somora, you must select your age before you can enter the app. This applies to the Apple sign-in path and to guest access. If you are under 18, do not use Somora, do not create an account, and do not proceed past the age step.
You promise that the age and other information you give is accurate. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we terminate it and delete the associated information as described in the Privacy Policy.
If you are located outside the United States, the service is not intended for you. Access from outside the United States is at your own choice, and your information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable law.
3. What Somora is, and is not
Somora is a quiet space to record dreams, feelings, and reflections, with journaling, soundscapes, and local simulations of people, replies, and calls. The simulations are fictional; they have no real recipient and are not contact with another person.
Somora is not medical care, mental health treatment, diagnosis, or crisis support, and nothing in the app is a substitute for advice from a qualified clinician. If you are in crisis, contact emergency services or a crisis line.
4. Guest access and accounts
You can begin as a guest without an account; guest data stays on this device and is not automatically carried into an account. To create an account, you use Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to your Apple ID secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.
Initial account setup asks for a name, an adult age confirmation, an account gender, and an optional bio. Avatars and later profile edits remain on the device.
5. Deleting your account
You delete your account in Settings > Account > Delete account. Deleting removes the server account; clearing local data is a separate action. The app reports unconfirmed results honestly: a timeout means the outcome is unknown, not that deletion succeeded.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that create legal risk for Somora or others. Where practical, we explain the reason and let you retrieve data that is not at issue.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you write and record. You grant Somora a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store and process that content solely to operate the features you use, such as keeping an account signed in, displaying your journal to you, and carrying out the exports or backups you initiate. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in routine backups, which are purged on a rolling cycle.
You may record, store, or share only content you have the right to use, and you must respect other people's privacy. Do not use Somora to create, store, or share content that is unlawful, infringing, harassing, sexually explicit, or otherwise harmful, or content that sexualizes anyone under 18. When you share, you choose the recipient through the system share sheet; Somora does not distribute your content to a public feed.
Report objectionable content or misuse to somoraiosfeedback@justsomora.com. We review credible reports, may remove content or accounts, and cooperate with legal requests where required.
7. Our content and your license
Somora, including its text, soundscapes, design, and app icon, belongs to Somora or its licensors. We grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices as these terms allow. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute, or resell the app, except as law permits.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the app to break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
- probe, disrupt, or attack the account service, or access accounts or systems that are not yours;
- use automated means to scrape, load-test, or reverse-engineer the service;
- impersonate another person, including by lying about your age;
- use the simulations to create content that harasses or deceives real people.
9. Privacy and permissions
The Somora Privacy Policy at justsomora.com/privacy-policy explains what information is handled, including contacts, photos, microphone, location, and notifications. It is part of these terms. You can withdraw any permission in iOS Settings.
10. Cost and purchases
Somora is currently free and contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions. If paid features are introduced, they will be presented in the app and governed by additional terms shown before purchase. Refunds for Apple-billed purchases are handled by Apple under its store rules.
11. Third parties
Sign in with Apple and system sharing are provided by Apple and by the recipients you select. We are not responsible for services outside the app, and your use of them is governed by their own terms.
12. Disclaimer
The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, or accuracy of the simulations. You are responsible for keeping your own backups. A failed import preserves existing local data; a successful import replaces the current space.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Somora is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost dreams or recordings, emotional distress, or loss of privacy. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, which is currently zero, or 100 U.S. dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or harm to others that law does not allow to be limited.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Somora from claims, damages, and expenses arising from content you share, your breach of these terms, or your violation of law or another person's rights, except to the extent caused by Somora's own wrongdoing.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app and the law evolve. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes are announced in the app or on this page, and continued use after the effective date means you accept them.
16. Governing law
These terms and any dispute relating to them are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and excluding the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
17. Dispute resolution; binding arbitration; class waiver
(a) Talk first. Send a written notice of the dispute to somoraiosfeedback@justsomora.com, including what happened and what you ask for. The parties then have 30 days to try to resolve it informally.
(b) Binding arbitration. If the dispute is not resolved, either party may submit it to binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, before one arbitrator, seated in Wilmington, Delaware. A consumer may request a hearing in the county of their residence or by telephone or video under the AAA rules. The arbitrator's decision is final, and judgment may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
(c) Class waiver. Disputes are brought individually, not as a class, collective, or representative action. You and Somora waive the right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration, and the arbitrator may not consolidate claims of different people.
(d) Exceptions and opt-out. Either side may bring an individual claim in small claims court or seek urgent injunctive relief in court. If you do not want to arbitrate, you may opt out by emailing somoraiosfeedback@justsomora.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms; otherwise you are bound. If a court holds the class waiver unenforceable for a particular claim, that claim is severed and proceeds in court, while everything else remains in arbitration.
(e) Jury waiver. Except where prohibited, you and Somora waive trial by jury.
18. Terms for Apple
These terms are between you and Somora, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide support or maintenance. If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price if any. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must comply with Apple's terms of service and the usage rules for your Apple devices.
19. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about Somora. If a clause is unenforceable, the rest continues in effect. Our failure to enforce a clause is not a waiver. Somora may assign these terms in connection with a merger or sale; you may not assign them without our consent. Headings are for convenience only. Questions go to somoraiosfeedback@justsomora.com.
